Instead of the humdrum fruit-in-bowl setting, I starting combining fruit and veg with my growing collection of vintage toy trucks - then challenging myself to include wordplay in the title and staging. Not only was I able to see still life subjects with fresh eyes, but I was enthused to be able to delight my collectors with the added humor. You can see the companion painting to Vintage Red here: Vintage White .
Even with the unusual subject matter, this image still has my favorite parts of a traditional still life such as the soft directional lighting, fruit with a luscious sheen, and contrasting textures. The background was created with multiple layers of green and blue.
The truck featured is a 1940s era pickup made by the Wyandotte toy company and is one of the first toys I bought for my paintings. You can see the companion painting to Vintage Red here: Vintage White .
