Stopped for Donuts is, by far, my most collected print by police officers and their loved ones.
Ever wonder how the police / donut cliché came about? It is based in history. When police officers transitioned to using cars instead of walking a beat, donut shops were convenient places to do paperwork and get a cup of hot joe late at night. In return, donut shops liked the protection of having a peace officer in the store after dark.
Just like a lighting a movie set, a still life artist sets a painting’s vibe with light. Here, I wanted the effect of the lighting to accentuate the reflective varnished shelf and make the donuts look glossy and appetizing. To achieve this outcome, I used soft, center-focused spotlighting. The dark edges of the background help to focus your gaze to the center of the composition.
Dear viewer, you can rest assured that I did proper donut-based research before creating this image. (And by research, I mean eating.)
The toy truck was made by the Wyandotte company and is a favorite prop of mine.

The artwork must be returned, undamaged. Return shipping cost is at the customer’s expense; and we ask that you insure the artwork for return. We cannot accept returns on custom artwork or commissions.
WHAT IF MY PRINT ARRIVES DAMAGED?
if your print arrives at your door and the box is damaged, please contact me immediately. Before opening your order, YOU MUST PHOTOGRAPH the damaged package. Then open the package to see if your artwork is damaged. Often, despite damage to the box, the print is in good condition. However, if it is damaged, please photograph the damage and email me the photo. I will then begin the shipping claim and start your replacement order.
