  • A flashback to the heady heyday of the American auto industry

Faded Glory is my ode to the American auto industry juggernaut of the 50s, when the engineering was innovative and every car had a unique style and attitude. I miss that creativity in today’s autos: it seems like every car body has a cookie-cutter sameness.
  • The background of Faded Glory, is, in fact, Old Glory herself. I wanted to depict the flag in a vintage way that reflected America of the 50s timeframe. I took my inspiration from barn art, where farmers would emblazon one of the sides of their barns with huge murals - American flags were (and still are) a popular theme.
The stars on the wooden flag are made of star-shaped metal cuts, nailed to the boards one-by-one. To complete the aged feel, notice how in areas where the star tacks have popped off, the paint is bright and vivid underneath.

    Other details

The cars used in Faded Glory are all antiques, chosen for this image for their bright colors and iconic muscle car body shapes of the 50s Cadillac, Corvette, and Mercury automobiles.
