Join Snoopy and his Sopwith Camel for good, plane fun
Snoopy lovers have long enjoyed the comical pup’s adventures flying his doghouse/fighter plane. In Airplane Hanger, I offer an homage to this intrepid WWII hero by wrapping a Snoopy comic, a vintage toy airplane, and abstract art elements in a bit of wordplay.
Airplane Hanger features traditional still life In the foreground, with the hanger, comic, clothespin, and airplane all painted with a nod to strict realism. But in the background, I have added a surprising abstract appearance, using drafting tools as my guide for the circle and line placement. These touches add an industrial look perfect for this aviation theme.
I found this toy airplane in a Phoenix-area antique store - it is a plastic model from the 1970s that had been lovingly put together and painted. I’m not sure if the yellow wings and green tail are authentic or if the model-maker took a bit of artistic license in choosing the craft’s colors.(If so, I approve!) If you like Airplane Hanger, I invite you to view my companion piece Contact. You can also see videos of the in-progress work on Instagram
