A horse whisperer is born.

Storm Rider features a daring raven, perched atop a horse weathervane, enjoying a bracing ride as inclement weather rolls in. I picture the raven whispering in the horse’s ear like a backseat driver, urging the steed to head faster into the wind.

Composition details

Originally, I painted this image without the raven, as just a study of this glorious old copper weathervane. But after I was done, I felt like the horse needed a companion - someone to help weather the storm - and give the image more of a storyline.

Other details

If found the beautiful weathervane on an antique hunting trip in Roundtop, Texas. As soon as I saw it, I could picture the vane atop a barn, spinning as a late spring thunderstorm approaches.
